Episode 1 Plot: In 2009 a.t.b., 10-year-old Lelouch vi Britannia carries his blind and paralyzed sister Nunnally on his back as he climbs the steps to a Shinto shrine in Japan. Lelouch explains that a shrine is a Japanese version of a church, and Nunnally asks if the Pope is the emperor of Japan. Lelouch says that Japan has an elected prime minister and that it's just a coincidence that Prime Minister, Genbu Kururugi's home is a Shinto shrine. After reaching the top of the stairs, Lelouch is shocked to find that they'll be living in a shabby storeroom. Nunnally asks what the room is like, and Lelouch lies and says it has white walls and decorated windows. Lelouch spots somebody and demands that they come forward. A boy named Suzaku Kururugi calls Lelouch arrogant and asks if Britannia plans to colonize Japan. Lelouch counters that Japan isn't much different and says that Suzaku should ask his father about that. Suzaku asks where the white walls and decorated windows are, and Lelouch charges forward. Suzaku easily knocks down Lelouch and begins to beat him up, when Nunnally cries out and asks Suzaku to stop. She says she'll do anything he asks, and he realizes that she's blind. Suzaku panics and quickly apologizes before running out of the room. Nunnally asks who that was, and Lelouch tells her it was Prime Minister Kururugi's son.
