Episode 1 Plot: Izumi is a kind and upbeat boy who happens to suffer from extreme unluckiness. On his way to his first day of his second year of high school, he trips over nothing multiple times, before meeting up with his girlfriend, the highly possitive and friendly Shikimori, who has a near-supernatural ability to defend him from harm. They meet up with their friends Shu Inuzuka, Kyo Nekozaki, and Yui Hachimitsu, as they realize they will attend the same class this year. In their classroom, some of Izumi's classmates tease him, telling him that he should be wary that his bad luck does not end up harming Shikimori. Unbeknownst to them, Shikimori overhears them. Izumi and his friends go to a bowling alley, where Nekozaki and Hachimitsu tell Shikimori, a bowling expert, to go easy on Izumi to seem cuter. However, before Shikimori's first throw, Izumi encourages her, leading her to shoot a perfect game. As they walk back home, Izumi tells Shikimori that he feels pathetic for having her defend him all the time, with him being unable to make it up to her. Just then, a large sign nearly falls on Izumi, but Shikimori manages to deflect it. She tells Izumi not to worry, pleading him to stay by her side.
