Episode 1 Plot: As a young child, Taisei's sister, Ina, encourages him to strive to be a cool person while they observe the E5 Hayabusa at a pedestrian bridge. During the present day, Taisei has transferred to a new school, Shinkai Academy because it's the same school his sister went to, who has now been missing for two years. Taisei meets his homeroom teacher Kadomichi Takanawa. Taisei becomes aquainted with Mai, and Ryota, whom he sits next to. In class, Taisei's relation to Ina is revealed and causes a stir because she was a famous system engineer. Taisei refuses to believe that she is gone and still believes she is alive, but many of the other students don't. When Ryota, the classmate sitting next to Taisei shows him around the school, he tells Taisei that he also believes his sister isn't gone. Ryota shows Taisei the Railway Club and he is instantly ennamored with it, compared to Ryota, who despite being the vice president of the club, does not have similar otaku-level infatuation with the topic. We are shown that Mai is the president of the club, and that Takanawa is their club advisor. While the three are in the metaverse together, Taisei attempts a train driving simulator and his performance is outstanding. Meanwhile, an attack from the Unknown is occuring on the same pedestrian bridge that Taisei observed long ago. Hurrying to the Railway Museum, Mai and Ryota inform Taisei that the two are part of a secret organization called ERDA, or the Ultra Evolution Railway Development Agency, "with the railway club as cover." Taisei is asked to drive the E5 Hayabusa, which can transform into the robot Shinkalion. As both Mai and Ryota lack the proficiency to drive it, Taisei is asked to do so. Remembering his goal of becoming a cool person, Taisei accepts the task and asks to drive the Shinkalion.
